I have used one for the last year and I love the thing. Great drag and the size of the reel is perfect for my use as it holds a ton of line. Why Shimano never made a 500/600 Calcutta is beyond me, but this is the next best thing and its a lot cheaper. I did change the handle from the big ball to one from a 700 calcutta and it balances better for plugging. Its funny how they sell this as a boat reel and yet I find it casts very well without all the bells and whistles( or mags) that other reels have.

thanks for the review.. i also like the drag and size, and it definitely fits what i am looking to do.. i saw for an extra $10 you can get the 600LC, which is the LineCounter version.. do you think that is necessary or worth it? just wondering.. anyone have experience with LineCounters?
