I think what we are witnessing is that in baseball it is ALMOST impossible to keep together a very talented team for very long. Since it is a player's run league, all they really care about is money. And that's okay, I suppose.
So the only way to keep together a talented team is to pay them all tons of money - which few franchises can do because of the luxury tax. That is why Steinbrenner does it, and look how competitive the Yankees have been over the years. He pays throw the nose for a competitive team. Then look at the Devil Rays.....and their payroll versus their track record of success.
Bottom line - if the Sox want to stay competitive for many years, they will have to start paying even more money. But I know that John Henry and Larry Lucchino understand that doing this doesn't make good business sense. In fact, owning a baseball team doens't really make good business sense. I wouldn't invest in one.

Bellhorn is brutal, but Millar is killing them. Bellhorn bats 9th and is decent in the field. Millar is below average fielding and he STINKS at the plate and they bat him 5th/6th alot. That gives Manny no protection.
Alot of his hits are 2 out, bloop singles... thanks Kev. You just keep waiting for him to win them a game at some point with a big homerun, but he doesn't even seem to get a big single, let alone a homer. He's without a doubt, the biggest rally killer on the team.
Mueller plays really good defense at third and gets alot of clutch 2 out base hits. I wouldn't mess with him, he's a solid role player. If you want Eukalis to play, play him at first in a platoon with Olerud and spell Mueller once and again. Sit Millar's big, fat butt on the bench or send him packing.
Bellhorn... I wouldn't trade or sign anyone to replace him, but bringing up that kid Pedroya (sp?) to check him out wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm not sure if they have a roster spot for him, but he probably couldn't strike out as much.
Millar...for a supposed "clubhouse" guy, he whines when his spot is threatened even though his performance is absolutely awful. His act is tired and the fact that they have two guys that can do better on the bench is pretty frustrating.
