that stuff should speed you up, not slow you down. It makes it so you don't have to re-download the pic everytime it is posted.

i would scan for spyware and the such. I have to clean up my in-laws computers once a month, usually multiple computers infected with 500+ incidents of spyware. ad-aware and spybot are two good programs &free.

It's a good idea to periodically delete these files and also to defragment your hard drive. If you use the standard Winblows setup, 10% of your hard drive can be cache setup. The more files, especially small files s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g up blocks on the hard drive can slow down your machine.

Go into tools > internet options > under temp inet files chose "settings" and change the default 10% to 50 or 100MB cache...

Freak, You can also try running your configuration utility (start, run, "msconfig"). By clicking on the startup tab, you can see all of the applications that start when you turn on your computer. If you have alot of junk running in the background, that can make you draga$$. Using msconfig, you can un-check all of the things that you do not wish to start right away. Things like media players and messenger services can be started manually, and horrid programs like Gator should be taken off startup, uninstalled, and deleted. Ad-Aware is a good spyware detection program. If you still use Kazaa, though, deleting the spyware that comes with that will cause a program error, and your free porn, um, music retriever will be no more. Be wary of un-checking anything you can't identify, as it could be important. But I'm sure you could have figured that out.

The worst day fishing is better than the best day working. ...Wait a minute, my work IS fishing. Sweet.

There is a reason why some things are free.Spend the 30 dollars and buy some decent spyware(webroot spy sweeper)as the free ones can add problems.

Yep - unfortunately, it's necessary to have the spyware and anti-virus.

If people don't have current anti-virus updateing near daily and are to cheap to buy it - downoad AVG Free Anti-virus from GRISOFT: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

For spyware, yhou really need two to three systems running, at least one proactively all the time: Get lavasoft.de Adaware which will CLEAN most spyware but the free version only cleans after the fact, must pay for the proactive version.

COmbine this with one or two others, say if you have COX cable like I do there is their free version, then add another system, Maybe Micro$ofts free one (though that is bordering on spyware from what I've heard - allowing "partners" that deal in spyware by the filters)...

I use Gri-soft anti-virus on all my computers (except the new one which came with 1 yr Mcfee). Grisoft is very good for free program and updates all the time.

AOL has a good spyware program that is also free.
