That was before the Beltran signing. First base was still a horror show most of the season. Reyes and Wright blossomed offensively, Floyd had another good year when most folks weren't expecting it, and they just brought a kid first baseman up from Double A who's been tearing the cover off the ball for a week. But, there's no closer (unless you consider Bradon Looper a major league closer
) or a reliable set-up man. The bullpen has indeed cost Pedro about 5 wins so far.
OK, so he's been a pleasant surprise
Frankly, I thought he'd have about a 12-8 season with a lot of no-decisions.
I wasn't talking about just free agent pitchers---I thought the Yankees were stupid for giving Pavano that deal off an 18-8 season that put him one game over .500 for his career. You trade some of the surplus of bats.
