Usually guys get whacked with big bills when they buy the reel used as it's not under warranty then. I've heard a few horror stories as well, but almost always it's an old reel someone bought on eBay that has the old stainless main shaft.

thanks Pete, but my reel had been recently maintained just before I bought it so I would think it is up to date but I see no need to send it in yet. I'm not rich.
