Typically a 50" fish is 50 LBs. At least that's what we have always figured. Usually, unless the fish is sick, a 51" fish will weigh a pound an inch. Even if it's a racer, and fish that big usually are not racers, the fish had to be damn close to 50 lbs. Just a huge fish fish for the 8 to 10 foot sea we fished in last night.
Last night, I was several places with my partner from Westerly to 'Gansett. We fished with and spoke to 15 hardcore surfmen and we only saw 1 15lb fish caught. By my partner.

Yup, I have caught several around 50" in the past 3 years that were well under 50#. I think the days of a 50 being a 50 are gone. At least in these parts. What do you guys think?

Nope, in fact I think its the oppisite, there have been more 50lb and 60lb fish caught at block Island this year then any time since the 80s, granted most are from boat but whats the difference? it proves there out there.

Don't get me wrong... great fish I'd be ecstatic, just may not be a fifty. I caught a 39" the other night that only weighed in at 17lbs
