Firstly, they are not intended for extreme cold, they are not advertised as such.

But let's consider how much colder the hands would be without them. If you choose to go with a thicker, warmer glove, you sacrifice usability & dexterity. It's a common dilema. One is always going to be sacrificed for the other.

I think we have found a sort of happy median with functionality, comfort usability and a degree of warmth even when it's cold out. Sub-freezing weather is not their intended purpose.

If you want just the toasty warmth, go with a 7 mm dry suit glove or similar, which you have to remove everytime you need to get or do something which is almost useless for what we need/do. The other option, don't go out in the cold which is not the best option since it is usually the time of the LARGE which we are all after.

And yes, they are just a piece of clothing, just like it is just a rod, a snap, a reel, a swivel, a type of line, a wader ect., they are all connected to one another since we need/use them all at given times to better enjoy our chosen sport/pastime. They are all just something....they are our pieces of gear, each has its place and is part of our arsenal of tools when we are out on the water.
