My advice would be to decide what types of flies you want to tye first. Then you can get just what you need in a couple basic colors. White and yellow are good to start with. Most kits contain alot of crap you don't need. Buy the best vise you can afford, you won't regret it later. I strongly suggest a good book. My personal favorite is "A Perfect Fish" by Ken Abrames. His designs and Philosophy are not mainstream But IMHO they outfish any other method for fishing in current and current is where the stripers are.
