Anthony has been hoggin' up the front page of S-B for too long

so we need to get some fresh blood up there. I was gonna use a certain Bloo picture but I didn't want people to get the wrong idea about this site

Was it your fish or your buddy's? I thought it was your friends - by all means, send it in but I would rather put up a regular on the front page when possible...

It was my buddy's fish but we took some great pics
I just thought that it was amazing that he got it so early this year
I dont care about the front page. (he's goofy lookin anyways )
Is anyone as impresed as I am with the average size of the fish this year. we all owe ourselves a pat on the back for this
how many people would object to a 36" fish limit

IRL - we would still like to see the pic of you can get it... and you're right, sweet fish as early as it was caught...

I'm all for a 36" minimum - I think 28 is WAY too small...

I wish they had a slot limit, like 24"-34", eveything smaller and larger gets thrown back. These are the best eating fish in my opinion and I have no problem releasing a big fish. Even if you wanted a mount, they can do it from a picture now.

NOOOOOOOO not 24" to 34" thats way to small to start with a 6 lb fish what a waste. Poor thing didnt even get a chance to spawn. If we were gonna have a slot limit I think 31" to 37" would be better and you can keep anything over 48" . Atleast starting with the 31" the fish atleast has 2 seasons to spawn.

The point of slot limits is to protect the best breeders. A 28 inch fish is small but its not a breeder so taking it just cost one fish. A 34 is bigger and has spawned and will have more and more eggs to to lay each year until it reaches a certain age. The huge fish are actualy not suppose to be the best breeders since they are sort of used up already. So anyway , in my opinion the slot limit should not be based on letting the fish breed once or twice then kill them. The slot limit should be based on targeting fish with a low breeding potential like smaller immature fish and big trophy's that have already seen better days as far as breeding potential. You should actually protect fish once they have had a chance to breed , not target them because they have had a couple of seasons to breed. What hurts is a single limit that forces everyone to target the best breeders like about 36 to 40 inches. As far as i know , its fish that size that are the mainstay of each spawning season contributing 5 to 10 million eggs apiece each year.

The other bit with the smaller slot is it also targets a higher percentage of males that rarely grow beyond 28 inches... Short of an effective slot limit, I would like to see 36" minimums. Otherwise 22-27 and over 40"...

I see what you guys mean. I am just worried people will be taking a lot more fish. Fish that size are very easy to catch as they are more agressive and tend to be more wreckless. I just don't want people to take advantage of that and go over the bag limit because they are legal size....

What's important is that you are concerned Anthony. If everyone was concerned , even if they didn't get all the facts correct , the fishery would be in better shape. Its the people who don't give a damned , some do to ignorance and some even though well informed , that hurt the fishery.

If you go to voice an opinion at a fisheries commitee meeting , its pretty important to get the facts straight. For the average angler though , all you need to do is know the law and abide by it. If every angler would simply learn the rules and abide by them , that alone would be a big boost to the fishery.

I think the next biggest contribution the average Joe can make is to learn how to catch and release fish so that they have a higher survival rate after release. If a guy is gut hooking all his fish and then takes ten minutes to unhook them , he's not doing any good as far as catch and release goes. If you know how to catch and handle fish without hurting them , show somebody else who doesn't. That'll save a lot of fish over that clueless anglers lifetime.

Ignorance is the stripers worst enemy. I have seen it first hand the damage a few guys with no knowledge and a piece of bait can do. I have tried to show and inform people about size limits and releasing fish. The fact of the matter is that 90% of the avg joe's out there could give a rats a$$ about stripers they just want to catch keep and kill as many as they can in there once twice a week fishing excursions. They tell me how they have the right to throw a piece of bait out and if the fish is stupid of enough to bite it that they can keep it. Most joes dont care what you or anyone has to say they will do what they want and its really sad.

Thats part of the reason I'm for a fishing license for saltwater maybe they can hand out informative brochures or something that helps inform the Avg joe about the proper handling of bass and the reason we have bag limits and alittle about the stripers history and other species for that matter. Its just another suggestion to help solve his problem that effects us all now and future generations.

We must find a cure for ignorance!!!!!
