I fish over 100 nights a year. All nighters are silly if you want to:
1) Keep your strength up.

2) Not get burnt out

3) Keep peace at home.

4) I usually fish the smart part of the tides...when the tide is moving so the fish are active. I know there are parts of every tide that will produce fish but there's an old saying "you can't dance with all the girls".

5) I guess that all nighters are OK but they don't work for me. If I can't find fish between Midnight and 3:30 AM they just are not feeding that nights. Besides RIRockhound and I are vampires. We are never caught out in any kind of daylight.

I try to have a tide stage and a location in mind to avoid all nighters. But I will do them occasionally, especially if the fishing is lights out. I'd say I do a handful during the season. Did a couple this past fall with Keeperreaper if I remember correctly.

you gotta fish the all nighters. even if you learned the hot times at your favorite spots. you never know what's doin out there.

fishin with buddies is good. luds48 is right, you may not talk much but it's good to know they are around.

Sometimes. Depending on where and who I'm fishing with. Normally in my areas I've figured on a 2-2.5hour window for decent fish.

In the fall only, but it all depends where I fish some places I fish from sun down to sun up and others I will fish the tides, it all depends if it's a beach or out flow or if it takes a ferry ride. I guess it's fish smart. I always have my little one burner stove and my cowboy coffee maker with me. plus sandwiches and snacks. In the fall I fish Plum Island, Outer Beaches of the Cape, Block Island, and SoCo RI. In the Spring /Summer I usually fish 4 to 5 hours at a time.

I have done my share and probably will again but on a more limited basis for something like our spring and fall legs or some other fishing occasion. I probably average between 4-6 hours an outing with a few 8's here and there. I find conditions like time of year, tide, wind, current, weather and fish activity to be more of the determining factor of where and for how long.

all nighters can burn you out quickly... pick your tides when the fish are active... Everyone wants the most stamina in the fall, so if you burn youself out by fishing all nighters in the summer months..you could be jepordizing when the Large are moving and hungry..

Well, it depends on what you consider an "all-nighter"

Sometimes I do pull a serious all nighter... starting at 9:00pm and ending at 7:00 am, but I hate myself for it everytime, these are few and far between. Very often, I still pull... well... pseudo all-nighters where the tide is right at 12:30 and I'll fish right through until about 4:00 - 4:30... get home for 5:00 ish sleep until 7:00... off to work.... next night go out at 1:00............

But our motto last year was "no all-nighters" and we stayed out for the pseudo all-nighter VERY often... but it paid off.... really well.

As for having a partner that is as into it as you are. That is the great equalizer... without that... I'd be dead or playing golf.

Many of my all-nighters were unintentional, time flies when you're having fun.

Yup... this works for me as well.. it all depends.. some times fishing has been at spot X at tide Y, so you follow those conditions for a while until they stop producing, so each night is an hour later than the previous..
working 60-70 hours a week at 2 jobs all season limits me to 2-3hrs a night, 4-7x a week... all nighters are fine if you get to slack off the next day.. If I have meetings or have to drive a boatload of people for 12hrs.. allnighters would be suicide...

Living where I do has a major advantage though; for the tournaments or something I can do dusk-midnight sleep 1-2hrs and then 3-dawn..

that being said I did 1 or 2 all nighters last year, but one was the Spring MS tourney then slept in the car on the way to a wedding in NY and then the second was the fall tourney..
