I saw the home video of them weighing that beast on CNN headline news earlier today. What a beast! Its a legit fish as you can see on the video. To bad it won't be officially recognized as such. But the angler knows he broke the record so thats all that matters.

he did the right thing, I'd like to think he didn't snag it. anyone know where it was hooked? I hope it was in the head. I'm hearing there decent guys, the storys are flying

I read that is was hooked in the back, right in front of the first dorsal fin. The fish was on a spawning bed, according to the article. Possible that it wasn't trying to eat the lure, but rushed it and turned to whack it with her tail, and that's how it got foul-hooked in the back
