The ski racks seem to work very well, although someone once mentioned it would be pretty easy to steal a nice reel off of one with a hacksaw

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.
What rack is really secure though?

Security is always relative to the lock used to secure the locking rod holders.

The locks on my rod holders are nothing exciting, anyone with a serious pair of bolt cutters could easily snip them and grab my gear.

Theft from locking rod holders is just a matter of how prepared and willing the thief is.

Both the Rod Vault and the Fishing Innovations locking rod holders will at least slow thieves down if not stop them, depending on how prepared they are. They're not going to hit and run your stuff while you go into a gas station or convenience store, for example.

I sell the Fishing Innovations rack mostly. He has a bunch of production models but he can also build anything you want custom. Not cheap but probably the best on the market

I've got a few on display including the one on the front of my truck.

Iron Mike still has a Hunter Fishing Products 4 rod locking rod holder for sale as well for $100. It's a serious score for someone. It used to sell for at least $250.

Dave, I have the Thule locking ski racks on my roof. They lock the rod in but not the reel. They are great for transporting and really secure. I don't leave my rods in there or I take the reels off if I am somewhere I can't see them. If you google Thule there are some sites that are a lot cheaper than others.
