If you could go anywhere on the east coast

My girlfriend just won a 5 day package time share thing. So we can stay anywhere for free, we just need to get there. She said she wanted to pick somewhere that would have some good fishing so I won't be bored

So I ask... if you had 5 days and anywhere (we are staying east coast) where would you go besides here for fishing in early to mid fall?

Thanks for the ideas

Depending on how much fun money you have, the Outer Banks is always sweet. Different species offshore and inshore. Not quite sure what is around at that time of year but a web search will give some good info. The night fishing for swords off the east coast of FL is also an option.

getting to the vineyard is easy, but getting your car there may be difficult this time of year.

OBX is nice

I'd go to Canada, Nova Scotia

looks like billfish and white/blue marlin are around the outer banks in early fall. that sounds tempting.

I'd send her anywhere she wants to go and stay home and fish Cape Ann 24x7 for all 5 days.

In this order -- with little thought given to your girlfriend (no offense, just thinking of fishing) Block Island, Montauk and then Key West as the third - barring any hurricane activity, if you go before mid October, you could still get good permit action out at the Marquesas and maybe even find a few baby tarpon inside the atol and possibly a bonefish or two -- but mainly a permit thing at that time.

I am always open to the islands.... That said, let me throw Hilton Head into the mix, though I'm not sure about the fishing in the fall...

thanks for all the suggestions. she's not really one that cares about tan lines or shopping so we don't have to worry about that...she's kinda the environmentalist, adventurous type. what if we werent just talking east coast?? the time share is open to the whole country... so lets throw that into the mix.

pssst. since she won this trip and is considering my interests, lets not trivialize hers. i think she prides herself on not be a "girly girl" she still doesnt like fishing but there is always hope

again thank you for all the ideas

Dunno if the fishing's really hot at fall time -- ive only fished in the spring and summer, but southern New Jersey is great. There are a few fishy spots that I know of, and I'm sure alot I don't know of, which should be even better without the horseshoe crabs of the summer. You could take a cruise on the AJ Meerwald, NJ's official tall ship. Your girlfriend would love it -- you can help set the sails, and if they trawl, help bring it up, and touch all the fishies they catch. Wildwood's got a sweet retro boardwalk with great people-watching and carnival rides. Cape May's C-View has better wings than Hooters. Lots of kayak rentals in the marshes -- getting a couple stripers while you tour the wetlands would rule. Farm stands, dodgy motels, porn stores where teenage girls with rolling suitcases leave with old men in tinted-window cadillacs, full-serve gas...it doesn't get any better. Oh yeah, and Wawa convenience stores with the best sandwiches ever -- on-screen ordering with all the options. Stone Harbor is good for taking a drive, saying "that's my dream house. no, no, THAT's my dream house", and sweet shells and sea glass to collect on the beautiful beaches. My vote's for SoNJ all the way. Something for everyone -- fish for you, and non-girly-girl fun for your GF. If you go there, let me know, and I can give you better details. Have fun whatever you choose!

The worst day fishing is better than the best day working. ...Wait a minute, my work IS fishing. Sweet.

bass babe,
that was a terrific sell.. even if we don't choose that, you have just put soNJ in a whole new light and will defintely be putting on my/our list of places to try out. The tall ship sounds like a blast.

She is really happy going anywhere... She says that all the time as long as we are doing something. For example, we are heading to Colorado at the end of the month to go see a concert. and one day a few weeks ago she says, I think we should use this vacation to just chill out, relax." When I get home that night we have more things to do than we have time! So sitting around while on vacation is a tough thing to do... Usually when we go away, after we get back I feel like I need another vacation to rest up.

Since you opened it up to country wide the TX. Gulf Coast ain't bad. Corpus Christie is a good choice.Sabine Lake on the TX/LA border has awesome fishing and yes it is saltwater.

Bald Head Island is quite nice

1) it is cape fear, you can walk to it and surf cast and have it all to yourself! Awesome rip there.
2) amazing golf, tennis and very serious world renowned crokett
3)No cars, just golf carts to get around. Nice and quiet.
4) new water front homes with AC and the water is warm, steps from bed to sea.
5) awesome little marina seconds away from great fishing! It is a blast to pull your golf cart up to the boat and go fishing.

Private, fewer people then up here and you don't feel like you are down south. It is nice. They have a couple nice resturants too.

The only thing are the hurricanes. This island seems to be a magnet for them. I use to go every year for a golf/beach/fish thing before doing the fall fishing up here and have had my plans changed 3X.. with a phone call that went like this "Sir, we are evacuating the island, you will have to resechedule your trip. And this is a day before you are suppose to leave. But if you do get there it is great. Fly to Wilmington NC and get to southport and get on a boat to the island. bring your clubs and rod and a bathing suit, that is it.

Hilton head, charleston, and I would include FL like stuart in november.

Lots of great towns that noone would think of. Ask and you shall receive.
Maybe we all could go, if transportation is arranged?

transportation/food is the only thing we have to pay for.
it will be a 5 or 7 day stay wherever we/she picks.

we'll talk.
