NIB, look at it this way. It's just another excuse to drive up and throw a bag full of lead at the fish in the ditch.

room for improvement
Got mine...tossed it with the junk mail. Not worth the drive to Boston IMO. I don't like pissing on good intentions but this is a comm fishing - charterboat capt boat fishing contest in my view. I doubt any surf guys get a shot at the truck. As far as the boat..it is just a raffle, fishing has nothing to do with it.
I heard that the old Shaffer contest had a point system that awarded something like 2 points per # for a shore fish and 1 point per # for a boat fish. I can't confirm this but I think this might have been done to level the playing field between the two. Again this is something I just heard about and don't know for sure that this was indeed the way it was done. IMO they need to do something to this event to make rec fishing and shore fishing more of a significant element in the contest. Heck, some of the players didn't even start fishing until the comm fishing season started!
Notwithstanding the different retention limits (which is an issue), being paid to fish or being paid to take people fishing is signifiantly DIFFERENT than having the drive and motovation to fish personally night after night. IMO these fish should not be allowed to be entered in a contest. Further, awarding tickets for the truck only to the "largest fish" of the month and not the largest shore AND the largest boat fish clearly tilts the tables to the boat fishermen. Boat fishermen will usually outfish shore fishermen on a consistant basis. (don't think so?...then why don't more comm fishermen fish from shore) Also teams should have some sort of handicaps based on the number of players, is it fair that you have a team of 10 and a team of 100 and the contest lookst at the top 10 fish caught? Lastly, I think the holding of weigh in tickets by local shops to the last minute to see if they come in with a larger fish that week is wrong esp when some shops sent them in right away. There needs to be some consistant rule that the shops follow. IMO if an angler weighs in a fish, it should be sent in right away and that is it for that guy for the week, the decision should be made by the angler not the shop. These are just a few of the reasons I will be skipping the event next season alltogether if changes are not made and why the event was not exactly fair towards shore and rec fishermen.
I think the intent of the event was a good idea and I respect the way they delt with some of the problems but perhaps more thought should have been given to the rules. Frankly, I lost interest in it soon after it started. I guess for the first year this identified the issues for future improvement. Lets hope they address them.

Well said Sandman, although I'm going to the shindig. My girlfriend and I are going into town the night before to see a band and we're staying over, so we're going to check it out.

I got mine in the mail last week, too. You can take guests, but they have to arrive at the same time you do. I think Christine and I will make the trip up.
I wonder if we can reserve a club table for SB-com?
Stiffy, when do they send out the weekly prizes? I won the shore for the last week of July. Just found that out last week.
