I would believe the wife but see if it happens again.
If the Pathfinder has two has two locations that show the transmission gear (i.e display console and shift handle console) then check to see if they agree with each other. The shift handle sh
ould be tied directly to the transmission via cables, etc which is more accurate and the "front display" is electronics and less accurate if there is a electrical problem. The window problem and the front display more electrical/electronic leading to believe that it is an electrical issue.
Trade the care in and make the wife happy.
