I agree that the rule doesn't make a ton of sense but not going to school today was not the right decision. Picking up habits like ditching out on responsibilities only sets you up to let people/employers down in the long run.
If you screw up, face the music. Its simple. I think the mose important trait a person can have is credibility. Understand the rules of the game and play by them.
