Newbie back at it

After a bit of a lay off for summer and hunting, I finally fired up the lathe again. Last year I had a terrible time with sticky E-tex. I bought a new batch and heated it by soaking the bottles in hot water before mixing and applying, and I got my best top coats to date. I'm still flipping them manually, but may build a turner if my wife can score a rotisserie this spring at a yard sale.

Very impressive. You've got a good eye for shapes, your painting is first rate, and I like the extra touch on your dannys' eyes.

In my limited experience, I've concluded that sticky epoxy is usually a mixing problem. If Fate hates you and you are having trouble with small batches, weigh it (but watch out the weight ratio won't be 2:1), stir with plastic/metal (wood absorbs the hardner), mix 5 minutes, pour into a clean cup before applying, and be sure your drying temps are @ 70-72. Pain in the arse for sure.

Nice work. I too like the eye detail.
