On the deceiver like George mentioned, you can splay the rear hackles to look like squid tentacles ( BobP uses a bump of material (estaz/ or chenille) similar to the way Kenny Abrahms uses it on his flys to get the material to expand) or use ostrich herl for a smaller fly. Build the body up with some sort of wrap (bills body braid, etc.) . Move the eyes toward the bend of the hook, and make the head with bushy bucktail, using the bottom part of the tail will make the hair flair out real nice, letting the material breathe in a rip. You can control the amount of flair by limiting/or increasing the tension on the fibers on the first couple of wraps. The attempt with the head material to get that illusion of the squid head that moves and has some translucency to it. A few dots wit a makrer to make it realistic.
