Rockbottom37,

You may want to concentrate on a chunk rod first, if you enjoy chunking mostly......it can also serve as a jig-stick, they toss the same kinds of weight.

Use your uglystick for pluggin until you've selected a good feeling custom plug-rod. I suggest you fish with some people from this site, perhaps attend one of the legs (research the legs to get more information..[equal to a fling]), sorry for using that word on here John.
Perhaps the people you meet or fish with will allow you to cast their set up a couple of times and you can see what feels good to you. Real life scenario is always better than waving an empty blank around a crowded shop.
They even have casting clinics from time to time...that's a great time to feel what you need. I think they even happen at the Canal.

i've never heard of fisherman being vain? i'm not hooked on any specific rod, nor am i stupid to think that's the only rod out there, hence the thread. i was always told by my "PORTUGESE" father that a good fisherman can catch fish with a stick and string if they know what they're doing,,,,, this is the same man that would bring a trash bag and fill it up with OTHER peoples trash that was left behind and would take it with him,,,, and i would always wonder why? well it's the same reason i do it now,,,,every trip i fill a white trash bag up with trash, cans, bait boxes, plastics bags, socks, ya name it,,, it's a shame what people leave behind...but back to the program... i do alot of shore and boat fishing....should i discount the 39lber i caught last year on an ugly-stick and a penn 7500ss? i caught over 10 fish last year over 30lbs. all on an ugly stick, not to mention dozens and dozens of keepers, dozens of black sea bass, hundreds of mackeral and squid, even snagged about 20 pogies in monomoy to live line in them rips ,,, on,,,, yup ugly sticks.... it's sad to think that when ya post a fishing related thread on a fishing related site, ya gotta be "joe da pro" with a vs250 on a lamiglas before ya get anyone to chime in....

if there are plenty of threads already started about this subject or one close to it, then a simple statemant like that would be helpful in itself.. after all i am new to the site.....thanks nib,,,,,,, the fisherman that i'm friends with and close to or just some ya meet out in the canal,,,,,not all, but some tend to be a real small community who got out of their way to help.... i know i would do anything possible to help anyone out in any situation, it was how i was raised, i'm sure alot of you are the same way. ya don't wanna reply or help out because i own a ugly stick,,,,,no biggie,,,, if ya ever stuck on the highway i'd still stop and help ya out,,,,,, is it really this way? i'm not stupid by any strecth might just be a bit niave to think stuff like this happens....

a man knocks on your door and hasn't had anything to drink in days...... do ya judge the cup he has with him,,,,before you pour him a glass of water....... life is hard enough, people helping people is still the easiest thing to do.... thanks for all who helped out

RB37,

I understand where you're coming from with your question -

Perhaps there's someone out there(here) that has a baitrunner attached to a decent blank and can chime in, along with their fishing preferences/styles as well as with the Penns.

But in backing up the Great NIB, the Search Feature is a great tool.
