no bunker
There are absolutly no menhaden, bunker,moss bunker or pogies, north of the mason dixon line. Stripers do not eat menhaden, they make them sick. Stripers like shrimp, crabs and worms, very low fat diet. Hence, the skinny bass we call keepers.
Menhaden are best suited for reduction, rendering desireable consumer products.
Please do not feed menhaden to Striped Bass.

They actually wintered over in western Long Island Sound this year on the CT side. First time in my 47 y.o. memory that has occurred.

Perhaps...
...it was the mild fall and early winter? Remember the shirt sleeve weather in January? Maybe they liked the conditions and hung around, only to be trapped when the freeze set in in Feb.? Just a thought.

They winter over in certain places every year...Seen it myself....Bass hate them though....  |
