I used to think homeschool was a cultish thing too...
My wife is an academic advisor at a university - she said the homeschool kids she sees are off-the-wall brilliant..

Brilliant, but Social Misfits
Kids need to be around kids, and that doesn't happen enough unless home schooled kids live in a neighborhood with lost of them. All the ones I have known were book smart, but they had no clue how to interact with people their own age. Socialization is something you build as you grow, not something you figure out later in life.

Was that the Cappabanco (sp) family? I think they lived on Walnut St in GC. I lived in GC until 1971 and went to St Pats and GCHS.
I drove thru there last year when I was in Melville for work . Not like it use to be.

Yeah, that sounds like the name. I don't really remember their name but that sounds close. I haven't been to GC in 40 years or so.

In the early 80's I taught at St. Dominic's in Oyster Bay, right next to Glen Cove. I'm sure I had a Cappobianco (little different spelling than Whiplash's) in one of my classes and seem to remember another enrolled at the same time. Wonder if it's the same family?

By then I'm sure that if it was the same family, it had to be one of the kid's kids. When I knew the big family in the 60's the youngest was 2 and the oldest was 24.

My sons friend was Home-schooled. He played on the High School Football and LaCrosse teams and had no social issues whatsoever. He was pretty much the same as all the rest of the kids just a little better educated.

She said they acclimate to college life pretty well....
But who are we to judge how well adjusted other people are? We're all enthralled by what is essentially an anti-social sport...
