South Shore MA Eel Supply?

Anyone on the south shore or relatively close to Quincy break their eels up based on size?

The shop I usually go to does not and they've been really small lately which is apparently the case with what has been coming from the distributors.

Hoping to pay a little more to get eels that I can actually cast.

I work at a tackle shop in Ct. and basically what happens is you order so many pounds from the distributers, and they dump a net-full in the tank. Small, medium, huge whatever, its all based on weight. Its a huge pain in the arse to sort em all out so very few shops do that. Ussually if you ask , you can just pick your own.

They don't like you pick at the shop I go to from what I've heard. I'm sure it might be different if you buy them more often but I only fish eels occasionally.

On the rare occasions I have been there, Pete at Belsan's has always taken care of me.

To get a little more weight out of the eel, cut solder (lead if you can find it) into lengths of about 2-2½" and jam them down the eel's throat. Makes them swim deeper, too.

The local shop I go too here in southern R.I. is usually pretty good about mixing in different sizes.I went last night to get a 1/2 dozen and they were all small in the tank not his fault. The cashier gave us 10 for the price of six that was very nice and he didnt have to do that. I got a 40 pounder on a very small eel last night so I dont think the size really matters with EEL.
