My B-Day Fishing trip!

Tuesday was one hell of a birthday for me!!

We went out of Falmouth to Vineyard sound, got to the fishing grounds, fishing was real slow!!

The weather man said the the wind would be out of the East all day with seas 2 feet. Well they lied!!!

Is was west most of the day and that was fine in the morning when it was light, But by 9 am we were surrounded by white water every were and said lets get out of here while the tide was slack!

Well this area has a area that gets real bad as the water has three different in lets, it can get nasty!!

I was doing 15 knots in 2 to 4 footers, slow and steady. Got hit by one wave and the water came over the bow and over the windshield and just gave us a good soaking.

We were at a area none as Middle Ground about 5 miles from thew harborer when the waves started to get nasty, But manageable, all of the sudden we came over a 3 foot wave and it was like we dropped into a hole a mile deep!! I looked up and all there was, was a wall of water all of 10 feet!! I yelled Kenny, I ducked behind the windshield and BAM, the windshield exploded and the lights went out for a couple of seconds, when the came back on the windshield was blown out the GPS & Fish Finder was hanging from there wires, I looked and Kenny was flipped over the seat to the floor and the boat was full I mean full of water, Kenny are you alright? He was fine with a cut on his knee and hand.

Boat was listing heavy on Kenny side and still rolling, I tried to turn to the roll to equalize the water, but she was not coming around and Kenny yelled the motor was under water, I turned and looked and saw just the top of the engine cover and heard no motor!

I said Kenny we are going in! He was out of his boots and rain pants in 3 seconds, I got the boots off, and tried to turn the wheel again and the engine was still running! I gave it all she had and she turned and the water leveled out and we were up right again!

Kenny took the bucket removed the fish box cover and started to bail as I headed for woods hole as it was 3 miles closer then Falmouth.

Kenny was getting tired and I said come here, said you see that water tower, he said yes, I said steer right for it!!
I took Kenny's place bailing, when I got the box empty I started to pump out the bilge with the manual pump. Just as we were getting near woods hole the motor was running well and the water was just in the bilge but to the top.

I now switched places with Kenny and said we can make it to Falmouth, he said you sure I said yes! I picked up the GPS and it was still on and tracking Flamouth, went real slow and made it in, when I got in Kenny said your a F___ Mess, seems like I got cut up pretty good, I have small cuts all over my face and right between the eyes I have 3 good cuts, Blood every were, There is blood all over were Kenny was holding on , on the dash and floor were I was dripping all over.

Took some cell pic's and will post this week end when I get home since I am down at the camp site.

All Damage is pretty confined to the windshield, both sides were blown out, supports snapped right off, But the center glass still in one piece??

I have all the frame but screws were pulled out and not sure if it can be repaired or not?? I will know more when I get her home and start to fix it up. But I am sure I am going to need a new windshield!!

Axe I would really appreciate that windshield!! If you can find out the shipping I would be more then grateful!!!!

OK guys thats it for now, I have one heck of a headache and need some sleep, But not before I thank the guy above and kiss the ground again!!

But windshield or not, Kenny and I are taking the V out again next Tue!!

Now here is the damage report, Everything is working just fine, the motor starts right up!!

The windshield is a loss and I am getting a new use one from a friend on another board.

Here are a few pic's

Well I am home from the camp and have looked the boat over well and I was right the only damage is the windshield and me and Kenny!

I met with CB today and we went for a coffee, all he could do is look at my face!!

Here are the pic's

Pleanty of blood around!!

Got everything cleaned up today and the left over windshield off. Tomorrow I add the new bilge pump.

I will be fishing tue!!

hey Joe, don't go out in that kind of weather again, you're scaring us
glad to hear you guys made it home, that was horrible.
your birthday ain't no time for that stuff

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.

Hey Joe, we are sincerley glad you are all right, that is some really scary %$%$%$%$, you guys are very very lucky, but you already know that. the marine forcast this whole year has sucked, wish i could have a job and be wrong at it all the time and still get paid, I am surprised we have not heard more situations like this.

We feel your pain as we were out on Devils Bridge one day on MV when we had our 20 ft Lund alaskan and had a roge wave 16 ft high come right at us out of the blue we were fortunate enough to get just above it when it crested but we dropped about 20 ft straight down off the back of it with nothin but air. Almost never got on a boat agian.

Be well my friend.

I guess the frig we fell twenty feet off the back of that wave. Jesus my knee hurts everytime I think about that.

I am very glad you both survived.

Joe, glad you made it through ok. That sounds very scary. I've taken 2 big waves in Vineyard Sound myself but luckily without damage.

From the looks of the cuts on your face, it's amazing you didn't damage an eye!

Had a similar thing happen coming out of Quicks hole on the east side, but not as bad. Scared the shyte out of us and lucky my buddy was able to reverse course while keeping us afloat. Very scary...

Thanks everyone!!

Yes it was scary there for a few min!! For now on I will skirt the island and then cut across, no more cutting thur Middle Ground when the shi- is kicking up!!

I have taken the windshield off and cleaned he up good, New winshield is coming.

I took it out yesterday and everything is great!! Motor ran good tok on no water, just like nothing ever happen.

But boat looks funny with out the glass and is different to drive, I feel like I should have a Machine Gun on the front or something

I have a new handheld radio to take over board with me, new bilge pump, new flares (old were out dated) and for the ride in if it is a bit lumpy will were PFD all the way in and be ready, Just incase!

Well on to the next adventure!
