If you want to just carry one color then alewife is the way to go, it's all you'll ever need. That said, I've also caught on white, black, arkansas shiner, and of course bubblegum. The bubblegum seems to work well on overcast days, maybe the fish can see it better. I also prefer the 7" model, but will use 4", 6", or 9" if conditions warrant. The 9" is real nice rigged with just an 8/0 shaughnesy hook, looks great darting around in the surf. For the 7" I've found a 3/4 oz. jig head works best for most situations that I encounter. You really can't go wrong, soft plastics just catch fish.
