I don't have sleep apnea but I can vouch for my brothers new lease on life after getting use to his CPAP machine. He is like a different person when you go from not sleeping worth chit to getting a full-nights sleep. The difference in him personally was like night and day. When we go fishing together and stay in the same room the sound doesn't bother me. Well nothing really bothers me when it comes to sleeping. The stress induced into your body and day to day life from not sleeping trumps not liking a CPAP. Its no different than taking medicine to keep you alive.

Love my CPAP - I don't think wearing it while napping on the recliner does any good because your probably not getting to REM anyway, which the CPAP is supposed to help on a long nights sleep.

I personally think if you give the CPAP a real chance you'll like it. The combination of the pillow which causes your neck to rise and your head to fall back a little - further opening your throat - along with the CPAP makes the best sleep possible.

I don't recall how long you need to sleep to go into REM (two hrs?). I would say if I stop breathing 150 times in an hr that I am not in REM for much at all. <vbg>

I'm surprized that I have lived as long as I have with the lack of sleep that I get! Miracle I don't screw up more stuff at work ...... LOL. Some how I manage.

I'm awake a lot longer than most people - so does that mean I get more done/accomplished in the course of a day?! Ummm..... probably not.

Regardless - when I use my CPAP, I do feel more rested.

May be that is what I am always grumpy?!
