A cod striper double, cod was caught on the bottom hook on a clam, the bass was caught on a live lined Mackerel fishe 18" above the clam in 160' of water 5 miles off shore... the Mackerel was intended for a whale cod...

The only bass I kept this season, I donated them to charity fresh fish dinner....these were part of an all night September blitz...

So how long was your fish out of the water until you could put it on a certified digital scale? You do know that stripers lose weight the longer they are out of tha surf, right?

Just going by the math, bro! And using the C&R Formula that OTW and others employ. Somebunny onehelluvalot smarter than me came up with it and most people accept it, so that's good enuff for me. Unless of course YOU have a better calculation, something more accurate than that one for the Striper Coast to use?

Not worth it ~to me~ to kill any fish, especially LAHHHGE (50# - 70#), to place it on a scale at some B&T. I'd much rather take her pic, and take some measurements, and then let her go make sum more babies and somenight return; to be the New World Record beneath the cover of a dark new moon.

NOW!!! That BEEEOTCH is comin' Home with Tha DAWG!
Iff i should ever be so prepared AND so opportunistic !!!

BD,
I actually disagree with the notion that fish lose a lot of weight once they are out of the water. I know you didn't invent the theory of weight loss, nor the weight formula. Lots of people have posed it over time.
The ones I weighed were out of the water less than one hour.

That's cool. Which scale do you use?
The Boga's look nice, definitely pricey.............

How accurate do the springloaded scales remain over the course of several seasons? Seems like a repetitive use sort of thing, ie the more you max one out or use it, then the less accurate it becomes over time. Am thinking of investing in a good Boga. Less handling the better, eh?

Certified scale = a bait shop with a certified scale OR a commercial market with a certified scale...

intersting couple of posts

I had two fish thidssd year that was identical to the length/girth you guys are talking about

both were weighed for the cup

one went 34.60
one went 28.40

the heavier one had an enormous head and shoulders
the smaller was your average bass

alot comes into play when you are talking weight.....thats why theres two choices

get it officially wieghed (ie tourney, table )
or guestimate the weight within a pound or two

just me 2 cents

I very seldom weigh fish because

From the ice-age to the dole-age
There is but one concern
I have just discovered :

Some girls are bigger than others
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girl's mothers are bigger than
Other girl's mothers

Some girls are bigger than others
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girl's mothers are bigger than
Other girl's mothers

As Anthony said to Cleopatra
As he opened a crate of ale :

Oh, I say :
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girl's mothers are bigger than
Other girl's mothers

Some girls are bigger than others
Some girls are bigger than others
Some girl's mothers are bigger than
Other girl's mothers

Send me the pillow ...
The one that you dream on ...
Send me the pillow ...
The one that you dream on ...
And I'll send you mine

Nice pix, buckmanjr, keepereaper, and others!
Those are some nice fish, especially the one with your family Keeper.
My daughter is 4 and she "reeled in" her first smallie this summer !!!!

Cannot seem to attach any pix. I keep getting the fatal error message ~over and over and over..........................

Was trying to show you the average size of the fatty's that frequent "my spot" up Cape Ann way. Not juicers by any means, but theys some big boneded beetches, at times. Some racers run in and out of there as well. It's all gooood .

Here goes one more time:

Curses!!!! Foiled again. Do I need to zip the file first?

Thank you The Dad, and Keeper.

Not sure what went wrong before and your help is most appreciated.
The first one was landed in early Sept and went 37". The discoloring is due to the fact that that fish was out of the water for prolly three hours.....................

The second fish was caught in early July and was my first keeper of the year. The yellow tape is at 32". Not my "best" by far, but some indicators of the "average" sized fish that seem to prefer my little slice of the Striper Coast .

Next year my pix should be easier to take and post since the bride wants a digital to be our joint present to each other. We've been eyeing the Olympus Stylus 790?? Seems to have all the right features.............

Thanks again, gents for your IT help.

Did ya read the part that said keepers, Bob???

Also, it wasn't until i read about the mercury and PCB levels inherent to the Hudson Stock that I decided to become mostly C&R except for two a year, one for me and one for my sister ~who lives in Jamestown. I made that decision in October, or thereabouts. Please see the Mercury Rising Thread I started <<<<<<ova there.

That being said, I've always kept my C&R window between 32" and 42". Next year I'm prolly gonna go with 36" to 40". Everything else is going back to live and fight again, and hopefully become a BIGGER gurl for my grandkids .

The only exceptions that I may make next year is one or two fortays and a fiddy for the Striper Cup, since after all there is a Toyota Tundra up for grabs !!!!!

Besides we can't let jimmySly have all the glory can we, Bobby ??
Nice SLOB, Jimmy!!!!

Tough call, though, because I truly believe that the more 50's we keep the less 60's, 70's, 80's there'll be down the road......................

Is it the voice of reason that upsets you so, Bobby?

Or the fact that someone else besides YOU, might actually have a salient point or three to make? Why so much hate from such a young man? That stuff will eat ya up from the inside out, bro.

Choose to bless rather than curse, love rather than hate, encourage rather than discourage. It will add years to your life, and life to your years .
