John - don't know how much area you have, but I have found that after you sow the seed, if you cover it with spun bonded floating row cover, it not only germinates faster, but also keeps the birds from eating half the seed. You can usually get it at Ocean State Job Lot. I use it on my vegetable garden for other reasons, but have used it on the lawn as well and have gotten much better and faster results than without it. Just remember to take it up before the grass gets too long, or it will start to grow trhough it and then you have a real mess. It is also reusable for three or four seasons. Is this becoming landscape.com?
