This is exactly the question I was looking for. That blank, cork tape grip, no reel seat, recoil guides along the lines of numbskulls second suggestion. I was thinking 30 as a first guide with 10s at the end. I definetly think the weight of the guides affects the recovery rate of the blank, think of it like unsprung weight in a car it is hard to damp and wants to keep bouncing. I'll use 20# Fireline and a 704, maybe someday a vs200.

I wonder with their lightweight they would help speed up the recovery rate in this blank. Is the 40 MM guide suffice w/a VS 250 and braid? I'm a traditionalist when it comes to building surf rods. 50's and 16 tips. Your expertise is welcomed.

Frasier: Niles, I’ve just had the most marvelous idea for a website! People will post their opinions, cheeky bon mots, and insights, and others will reply in kind!

Niles: You have met “people”, haven’t you?
