Iceboat Dragsters

I would have posted what I was doing this weekend earlier except I was already doing it when this thread was started. Traveled up rt 89 early early Friday in VT to beautiful lake Champlain to witness up close and personal nine $30,000 plus Skeeter class iceboats duel it out on a four by five mile plate of ice rink smooth ice. These things sound like jets going by when its windy. The weather was 'almost' perfect. I say almost as we could have used a touch more wind. Light winds delayed the start on Saturday when this photo was taken. When the windmeter hit 7 mph they decided to give it a go. During the race the wind was clocked at 4-5 mph and at the same time the boats were radared going 45 mph. That is ten times the speed of the wind. WOW. If only the wind was going 15 mph they would have been going 150mph. Yikes. I will be back in two years when they have this event up there again for sure!

Not a bad way to wrap up the season. The fat lady is about to sing and it will be time to fish!
