you lift a fish and you are asking for trouble. i know we all do it, but i would not suggest it on a graphite blank. even glass at times is pushing it. in most cases, you are high sticking and the blank will break. i will agree on a beater rod, which is why i shy away from graphite on a jetty. it will fall, it will get hit, you will bang it around. if you are fishing braid, graphite offers little advantages on a jetty to me.
