Another trick to getting a good shot: take lots of the same picture with slight variations in angles, settings, direction, etc. If you take enough the odds eventually are with you that one will be better than average.

It is the digital age vs film.

BTW: I use 3 different cameras, none of which is waterproof but I'm a boater not a surf guy. I've got a 9 year old Canon Elph (the original S100) that I like a lot as it is very small and simple to use, an Olympus Evolt500 DSLR with 2 zoom lenses, and the newest is the Creative VadoHD movie camera. I'm using the Vado almost exclusively now and you can capture individual frames from a movie. Of course the resolution is not as great as from a DSLR, but for posting on web/email its OK, not printing large 8x10's.
