Voting question
I've voted since I turned 18 (27 years ago) !
Not 1 time have I been asked to show ID when I go in to vote.
Why is this ?
In other words, what is to stop me from showing up when the polls open in the am, If I know a name and address of someone , as long as that person has not shown up and had their name checked off the list, what is stopping me from casting that persons vote ?

Aren't you required to put your signature in the registration book each
time you vote?

If they are not checking id's in your district you should probably report it to Galvin's office. I always get mine checked.

Both my wife & I have voted in Wrentham for years, never 1 time had show ID.
Prior to Wrentham, both lived & voted in Jamacia Plain (Boston)
Same story, no ID check !
Everyone I've asked, same story.
Reason I bring this topic up,
On the radio today I listened to talk of how the suspected corrupt vote Obama got in the presidental election (Acorn) will happen in this election
also !

I'd be deeply disappointed if the dems didn't make every effort to completely trample any perception of an honest, free and open legitimate American election...I've come to expect nothing less from them....

It's good to get out in front of this issue and claim fraud before the election.

no need to claim it...the dems are actually pretty open about it, transparent you might say...and then the enablers simply claim it's not a big deal....give me one legitimate reason(a real one, not..it's racist) why the dem party fights any effort to require proper identification when voting...hmmmm???
they got Al Franken into the Senate...he's a beauty...I think I forgot him on my list of dirtbags
why not Martha Kennedy...?

I can't answer why you need an id to vote. Voting procedure is determined by the MA Sec. of State.
You know, the last election for SOS it was a Green Party candidate (Stein) vs a Democrat (Galvin)
There was no GOP candidate on the Election Day ballot for SOS in the 2006 MA General Election.

A $20,000 fine and something like 2 years in prison if you're caught.

I had to vote absentee and our Town Clerk checked my ID. Never been checked on polling day though.

That's if you actually get caught.
There is nothing to prevent voter fraud in this state.
Heck, it's pretty much encouraged.
We'll have to wait and see.
If we have a larger voter turnout than the presidential election, I would be wary.
Here's a solution: If there is any proof (voter records, video, photo) of ANY voting fraud charges, charge those responsible, and the candidtate (because as Martha should know, Ignorance of the law is no excuse!) and kick their sorry a$$ out!
What about having "poll watchers" to keep an eye out for possible infractions? Each side can supply their own.
Maybe the same genius that wrote the misspelled ad will somehow miscalculate the votes needed for a given district, and we'll have a region with, say 10,000 residents cast over 20,000 votes?

Because some (often poor) people don't have a valid state or Federal ID, but still have the legal right to vote.

If this is a democrat thing, then how the hell did Weld and Cellucci get in? The hell with all this 2 party crap. If it's fixed for one, it's fixed for all. Oh, I am equally repulsed by the far right and far left, and I'm sick of the propoganda if you hadnt guessed.

I believe only a few states have passed laws that require this, but it would depend on state law. Regardless the issue presented was if there were legitimate arguments, and there would appear to be.

Seriously, wouldn't they have a birth certificate, social security # or
citizenship papers in order to register?

Twenty five States require ID. Most of them have some sort of provision for those who forgot to bring the ID, such as provisional ballots, signing affidavits, answering certain questions such as SS#, address and birthdate, etc. that may conform with the official roster. Certainly, if we legitimately require ID for more mundane activities (driving an automobile) wouldn't it be legitimate to require that someone identify that he is the person legally registered to vote?

Elections: Voting on Election Day
Will I need to show identification to vote?
Maybe. If you registered to vote by mail on or after January 1, 2003, you will be required to show identification when you vote for the first time in a federal election since registering by mail in 2003 if you have not sent in a copy of your identification with your mail-in voter registration form.
Acceptable identification must include your name and the address at which you are registered to vote, for example: a current and valid driver’s license, photo identification, current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other government document showing your name and address

What about if you registered to vote by Acorn on or after January 1, 2003 and you are often poor and don't have a valid state or Federal ID, but still have the legal right to vote?
