so this has been bothering me

Had a fish on the other night at a portion of a beach that I don't believe there are alot of rocks at. Felt damn heavy on the pull when it wasn't running and took a good bit of line when it did. On for few minutes then broke off of the teaser. First thought was it was a blue, but the teaser was "frayed" 3-4 inches from the drop, and I had the teaser itself @ 8-10". Thoughts?

ya know that would be my luck, but I am still leaning towards a rock. It was after the 2nd big run, on the 3rd pump, I stumbled backwards a few steps and caught myself before hitting the dirt

Paul,
Maybe you had a double on at one point - and dropped both. Happens on occasion. I've had a few over 30 pound aggregate double headers this season - lots of weight and hard to control when they fight each other - usually one wins and breaks off or comes unbuttoned. What pound test was your dropper leader?

could be numb, I did have one just pull the teaser off completely earlier in the week. I know I made a bad knot on that one, but this one was tight like a tiger

That's one thing about teasers- I've lost some big fish that way too.

Maybe you frayed the teaser dropper' earlier while fishing the "rocks" and didn't notice it....

onecast = what does the knot "type" have to do with frayed line 3 - 4 inches from the drop? ...just curious

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

Big blue inhaling a teaser could easily get 5 inches of leader in before sawing you off.

May fortune favor the foolish....

Had the teaser loop possibly been frayed a bit when you were "fishing the rocks earlier?" Just wonderin'

ooo...just saw bloocrab's comment. GMTA

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

Probably would not have "had it on for a few minutes" if a big blue wolfed it down.

Hook in the far side of the mouth of a blue, pulling away from you. The Blue makes a turn, and the leader comes across the front teeth and there goes your line. And the reason it's frayed, be cause it rubbed across multiple teeth and finally cut at the spot on the leader where it was cut.

Be encouraging, not discouraging

That's the beauty of "the one that got away". Sure, it might be a 60... potentially. It's still out there swimming, right? It might grow to 60lbs someday, sure. So, you had a 60lb fish get away.

Technically correct: the best kind of correct.
