Chris,
Wish you would have asked me at the SWE this weekend - I had mine in the buggy. I decided to start with 14 per boot - that's how many holes there are. This amount has worked fine for me but I'm 165 lbs. This left me with 20 extra wearbar spikes that I use to replenish any that are lost. So far in a season and a half I've lost 4 spikes (3 of them on BI shoreline structure which tends to eat all kinds of spikes) - no epoxy or washers on mine. One lace did wear out and snap - easily replaced. Boots are showing a little wear - in one area some threads are wearing out from scuffing on barnacles but I consider this normal wear and tear as these things are always in the water bumping into boulders, stepping on unseen remnants of metal lobster gear, etc. Will probably last me though the season. When they go I'll definitly get another pair.
