That's a great story.
Now, instead of your kids fearing the ocean because "what happened the last time" they went out (and it would have been the last time they would due to fear and youth) now they will probably understand WHY you do what you do in preparation for a trip and why you have all that safety "stuff" on board.
Cooler heads prevailed and now the kids will have a real story to tell of their fishing "adventure" with their cool-as-a-cucumber dad!
It's always refreshing to hear stories of times when someone was prepared for just about any emergency, and had a good outcome!
