Thats a damn nice fish. What did she weigh in at? I cant say for sure like anyone else, but the fish probably would have lived with the hook in her if she was in better shape after the fight. While using circles, its not guarantees that your going to get a lip, Ive had many that have swallowed it. The only thing i would have done different is brought her in more quickly. I try to get them in as quick as possible, but that's a big fish and i would have felt the shoulders and not rushed it too much. With a fish that big, if the hook was only in the stomach a little bit it is usually possible to take the hook out. I have cut the line and reversed the hook out, pulling the eye out of the hole, not the barbed end. Its easier on a big fish since its pie hole is big enough to get your hand in there. But that is a moot point if she is in bad shape. Congrats on the big fish, you tried your best to revive her and it didnt work. Things happen.

Everything is better on the rocks.
