Math was never my strength, so it's possible if not likely that I'm wrong so correct me as needed, but...
The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year. So, from today, 15 days until the days start getting longer. 22nd the actual solstice (14 days away), and the 23rd, the first day that is longer.
Sunset has bottomed out and it will be setting later starting in the next few days. Sunrise continues getting later until some time in January despite the days getting longer.
