having lived in the desert for a number of years we used to freeze a milk carton or water jug half full of water in the freezer until it froze completely then in the morning you fill it with water and place it in a brown paper bag which blocks the sun and can be dunked for evaporational cooling as the bag stops the greenhouse effect. Secondly we wore full length white long sleave shirts that you could also dunk in the water for instant cooling off. Also it was a good idea to take the siesta 12-2 during the hottest part of the day to rest up for the cooler parts.
