I actually take customer fishing and expense the gas and bait. Just took 4 customers up to Loon Mtn skiing and expensed the whole thing. Cant beat that. If you make your numbers no one bothers you. If you dont make your numbers thats a different story. some people cant handle the pressure. And its up to you how much money you can make.

I've been in sales for 42 years (selling software and related services) and I never would have done anything else. Made good money. Took time out to fish when the runs were on. In fact there was a running joke at Murats for years that Dave Hammock could tell when the Fall run started because I would quit my job. Hell, I could always find someone to hire me for straight commission and I am an ABC person. ABC for you non-sales folks is Always Be Closing!!
