No, that is the beauty of it...water is put in cup by cup just for what you want to brew. It is empty when finished brewing. I have a drink cooler near by and pull out a bottled water and pour it in the coffee cup I plan to drink out of to the level I want, then from that cup into the top of the machine. Insert Kcup, press the button and in about 1 minute you have a fresh brewed cup of joe and the machine is empty of water. If you want another cup you have to put more water in. It is a cup by cup machine.
For some this is a hassle and is why most don't buy the machine but for me this is perfect because the machine is almost bone dry. (there may be a few drops left in but that is not a problem and the machine is so small that you can (if you want) turn it over and get every drop out if you prefer.
For the $ it is pretty low risk. Also my wife likes it because she has her favorite and makes it the way she likes. I only use the Paul Newman Extra Bold.

I wish they made one taller without the base or wall mountable but so far this is working out quite well.

This is 110 volt. 12 volt coffee pots suck from what I have seen...take forever and sometimes don't finish. a PIA in rough conditions.
An inverter will allow you to do it . Again mine is a 2500watt inverter/battery charger that uses 2 8D batteries for house loads and one group 31 starting. but if you have a generator...just start it up. Is is that hard?
When I am at the dock I am normally plugged in to AC and just run it off of one of the outlets. I bet I made 100 cups with it on board last season
