The baseball world is populated with the most bizarre assortment of characters. Anytime you get that many left handed people together, you're going to have a lot of weirdos.
Clowns, brainiacs, heroes, goats, egomaniacs, drunks, liars, cheats, bad examples, solitary men, gregarious men, self-centered men, compulsive men, extremely superstitious men, selfless men, men who are paragons of honor - and they all have antecedents and, if we wait long enough, all will have their decedents.
The good, the bad, the pathetic, and the righteous - all have their rightful place in the game. The game is bigger than all of them. What they did after they stood on the diamond, will be forgotten soon after they depart this world. Compared to their time as a major league player - the rest of their lives is almost inconsequential.
