Ugly Wound..

We've been catching some pretty beat up fish as of late...split tails... bleeding wounds...not sores.. possibly from rough handeling..some even have ripped jaws/mouths...
here is a picture of a fish caught this week that appears to have survided something tramatic... I guess is may be a gill net.. other than the healed over wound , this fish is healthy and strong.. she gave me all I could handle on light tackle.. she even recovered very quickly and swam off smartly... but not before giving me a puss full of water as a "screw tou suka! as she left...i wish her well.. opinions of the scar/wound?

Gill net is my guess!
30 years ago I got caught in one in front of the old coast guard station coming off the flat...
They were banned at the time.
Fouled my prop. I removed it!!!

There were a few of them around that year Leo... big mesh floating nets.... I got so tangled in one out on the beach so bad that I had to anchor the boat and go swimming with a knife...I couldn't rise the motor for fear of sinking the boat..

night shift gets the credit for this one.. I was only the angler.. if the boat dont put you on 'em.. ya can't catch 'em.

I havent had a hook in my anatomy since i was 14( sabiki rigs aside).. that left a 19 stitch scar... a permenant 'tattoo" from my first "40"

Nice fish Joe
I thought of you last night as I stood on the shoreline flogging the water with plugs for hours to no avail and to end up not being able to get out because of the high water(my truck doesn't have a snorkle) so I went back out for some more punishment. home by 5

Full moon was bright last night

did you get her on an eel?

call me next full moon ok

nice fish joe... and great pics!!
it reminded me of an experience i had about six or seven years ago. i was fishing point judith one nite to the left of the east wall, using eels and getting into some low to mid teen fish. during one of my hookups as i was reeling in, i felt a hard thud, and the fish stopped fighting. it was still there, but the fight was gone. as i got the fish in and my light hit it, i noticed a silver dollar sized bite taken out of the fish right behind its dorsal. seemed too small to be a shark bite, so i wrote it off as a bluefish. it wasnt bleeding at all but was definately into the meat. when i proceeded to start unhooking him, he sprung to life and started thrashing about. i contemplated keeping him for the dinner table, but he seemed no worse for wear, so i laid it in the water to "revive" him and he damn near shot out of my hand! so i guess its safe to say that these fish do okay... even with some nasty looking wounds.
