They all work and have their place. The differences between them is a matter of personal preference for a specific application.
I think we will see rubber go illegal eventually. There is way too much of it in use and fish are eating tons of it. And it is not safe. (ever smell that stuff when it is being poured?)
I can't tell you how many get cut in half in a single season.
Yes they all work and are all effective. But I think they need to go the gulp way and make it safe for both the environment and the fish ( and eventually people?).
Do I use them?....yes. But I am trying to use them a lot less now. it is just a matter of time before they deem it a form of littering. You would not toss a plastic bag in the water would you? (I certainly hope not)
I use the so-called "green" plastisol. It's supposedly phthalate-free (it's a known carcinogen). But the stuff still stinks when heated. If I pour a lot in one session, I sometimes have to use a respirator.

i've always felt this way too, especially with the scented stuff and oil impregnated stuff.
