I haven't smoked since this thread started in January 2009.

Smoking isn't going to kill me....Can you say the same?

Mugz, thank you for the thoughtful response. I'm glad it was just a scare and nothing more. I'm worried I'll have the same scare in a few years...if I'm lucky.

Fly Rod - I like money so thank you for re-posting that! When I start to think about how much I'd save a week (~$85) it's quite alarming although encouraging. Definitely good incentive right there.

FF - I cannot. Thank you for your post and congrats on continuing a major feat.

I quit though I did buy one pack this year, one evening, and have bummed a couple more. I have had one in 7 months. And over hte past few years have been 90% quit.

It is hard, harder for some than others.

Bart, Stick with it, it ain't easy. I am still tobacco free but not nicotine free. I started vaping the following week after I stopped. My son turned me on to it. he has been successful with it as well.
I started out with the tobacco flavored juice in the highest nicotine level. I was a 2 pack a day smoker. The highest level is 24 Mg of nicotine. After a week I tried some different flavors and now I can't stand the tobacco flavor. I am now down to 3 Mg of nicotine in my juice and it is working for me.
The next level is 0 nicotine and that should be sometime next month keeping with the rate I have been dropping.
So I have replaced one addiction with another, (not really its the nicotine so same addiction). I feel much better as there is no smoke involved. It's a vapor. No more coughing up a lung in the morning, no shortness of breath and i can't stand the smell of cigarettes. Its also a lot cheaper.
It's an option to look into if you find yourself having a hard time with quitting. If you choose to go that route I can offer plenty of advice on what to buy and what not to buy as far as equipment. As far as flavors there are a million different ones.
If i can be of help don't hesitate to ask. I don't post a lot but read a lot and check in regularly here.
I am not going to say good luck as there is none involved.

Stay strong,

Vic

Thanks, Vic. I really appreciate the thoughtful response. I tried vaping for a while, but always used the crappy ones that still tasted like cigs because the others just didn't do it for me. But I'm definitely not opposed to trying a better e-cig if this doesn't work. I'm hoping it does.

48 hrs down. Thanks, all.

I am guily of Vaping too....but a buddy of mine said " if your trying to quit smoking, then why vape a flavor almost the same?" I started with the formula they said was as close as it got to a cig....then changed to something else. Sweet Tart of all flavors...call me a fag but its damn good. I gave away the cig flavor. Now its just about the haul and the 3mg of nicotine I get. I find that it helps my 4 or 5 cravings a day....but I dont see myself doing it forever. With a few beers I vape.....still better than butts though. By the way...no one thought Id make 20 days....no one. I keep getting calls from buddies asking how it is to be back to smoking....they assume....but they are wrong. Will power....and the thought of my health.

Its funny you talk about getting mad....Everytime I quit I had to be careful who I told. Constantly being asked "how you doing with quitting smoking? " They could be a supporter but man do you just want to tell them STFU and slap em.....or they are they ones who want to bust your balls when you fail. Either way, it sucks....but man no way is easy. They are evil little sticks....getting mad is a good way to look at it!

72 hrs without a cig...can't remember the last time I could say that.

It was crazy - I think all the nicotine finally left my body around noon yesterday because it was like getting hit in the head with a shovel. Could barely keep my eyes open. Was so tired i slept for 12 hrs last night and that never happens. I'm guessing it's because nicotine is a stimulant that my body was dependent upon. Crazy what these things will do to you.

Thinking of all the money I'll save has really got me in a good mood

*edit* Was in a good mood until I read the EEZ thread. Still not smoking

NICE.....22 days for me. They say it takes 22 days to kick a habit. I think for me it was sooner than that. It's funny how once you get past the first week you find yourself NOT thinking about it as much. I found that I needed to do things to keep my mind off of it....then when I did think about it, I would say to myself "wow, I didn't think about having a smoke for the last 2 hours." Baby steps, baby steps....
Keep up the good work....like I said, it DOES get better. Kind of like nursing a wound....every day it gets better.
Also, I have found that I used avoid the stairs up to the 3rd floor at work.....now I take the stairs and am realizing that I'm not as out of breath as I used to be....I cough less in the morning, and can tell that I can breath more deeply. Ahhh.....
Just some words of encouragement for ya...

Oh yeah, and money wise I used to look at my bank statements and see that I would take out $20 for a pack of smokes at least every other day if not daily....yikes!! That would leave me with $11 in my pocket....well, some of that would go to a $5 scratch ticket. So, I am saving myself trips to the store, saving myself from buying freakin losing scratch tickets and whatever other nonsense I would buy with the change from a $20 bill.....
Plus, there are a lot less swipes of my debit card at the local mini mart too...crazy how it all adds up.
Which gets me to thinking...what can I buy, what can I buy?.....

That's awesome, Mugz. Good for you, man. Keep it going.

I'm 4 days in and hanging tough. Having vivid nightmares and food cravings, but have been trying to offset that by working out like a beast at the gym. This weekend should be a test. I also haven't been fishing since I put them down because of how much I smoke when I'm out there. Pretty sad when you really think about it. That will be the true test, when I get back in the surf.

Thanks, fish4striper. Awesome accomplishment.

Been done with nicotine now for 4 years, not really sure exactly when I quit. If I was awake I was smoking.
Getting to the point where i go thru just 2 packs of Trident a week!
The smell of cigarettes actually bothers me now. I hate to see kids (AKA anyone under 30) smoking and give them chit.
You can do it, even if you have a setback keep going down the no nicotine road.
I have not had bronchitis since I quit either, I always thought it was a winter cold.

Crazy thing is I used to smoke them on the way to the gym. And on the way home. Absolutely disgusting.

Made it through the weekend, which wasn't easy. Happy to be on day number 8....

Excellent.....day 28 for me. Although, the Vapes do help from time to time (especially if I'm having a few brews).
Haven't touched a piece of nicotine gum since last week...no matter what anyone says, it does help with cravings. It helped me for up to 3 hours. In those 3 hours I wouldn't get a craving. 3 hours is 3 hours.....
But, I have to say...I have no DESIRE whatsoever to pick up a smoke again. I think I engraved it in my mind weeks ago....so, it really does get easier.

Good job, Mugz. You should be really proud. Almost a month down!

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. About to pull a fishing marathon so this should be a true test. Will load up on gum. Tight lines!
