OK, this sounds fun! Just out of curiosity who won last year?

Slip won a sweet Loomis Canal Jigging Stick
Redcrbbr won a very sweet 9'graphite surf rod with an ABU6500
C-Ratt won a Surf Spinning rod
Fishpart won a Surf Spinning Rod (which I'm putting together next week )
It was a lot of fun

Dispute about scale accuracy on another fishing board and that little experiment proved my point. That 50 lb Berkley digital is damn accurate, even at the smaller weights.

I've always been of the mind that the biggest fish goes by weight. I mean, a 43" fish could weigh several pounds more than a 45" fish and you always hear big fish described by weight.
But, I don't think its practical in a scattered, catch 'n release tournament.
I think by combining weigh slips for kept fish and board member witnessed C&R'd fish we inherit a little bit of "controversy"...
For example, my fish last year clearly was bigger than Slip's "lunker" (I use the term loosely), but the rules stated length. You never heard me complain that I caught the better quality fish and got shafted by the fine print. Its good enough for me to know that my fish was superior as are my fishing skills. Slip knows the truth, I know the truth, that's enough for me. Just like we all know the Patriots weren't the best team in the NFL this year. Injustice happens from time to time.
Going by length would seem to be the best solution.
I hope everyone takes this as intended...

I beg to differ!!...doesn't the saying go...."May the best team win!!"....???....well in my opinion, the BEST team did win.....with incredible odds against them at that...."Injustice"????...didn't they deserve the win??.....was it handed to them?....did St. Louis screw up, or did the Patriots clearly out play them....AND THE RAIDERS...AND THE STEELERS....who by the way, were also "supposed" to beat the Patriots...
How do you become the "Best" team??......question
By beating the best teams!!!........answer
...c'mon schoooolie, let us (Patriot fans) enjoy our moment of Glory ......at least until the next playoffs start. ......moments like these don't happen all the time for N.E......use a different analogy please....

Goose and Bloo,
Can't you appreciate some good hearted SMACK talk? I was taking a shot at Slip, but figured I could get everyone else with a shot on the beloved Patsies. I even qualified my remarks as a JOKE.
Raider fan?, I ain't no damn Raider fan, I wasn't sad to see them go... I'm actually a Bronco fan, so the Raiders are public enemy #1.
Your team won the tournament... they beat the best teams in the AFC and the best of the NFC. Whether or not the Pats were the best, doesn't matter... They wear the crown till Jan '03. Don't be defensive just because they only scored like 5 offensive touchdowns after week 7. Or because they needed touchdowns from special teams and defense to compete against other playoff teams. Or some fine print on some obscure rule that says its not a fumble when you have control of the ball, aren't passing, but were thinking about passing sometime during that quarter, then get hit and "drop" the ball. These are not reasons to have an inferiority complex. Jeez, just be happy, I mean, it was almost as great to win the Super Bowl as it was to have Ray Bourque win the Stanley Cup with another team.
And don't take it out on me because Pedro got shelled on Monday either. I like the Sox, alright?
Seriously, I think that the way the Pats won this year showed what sports should be like. Not a bunch of yahoos flashin' money, dancin' and chokin' and whinin' when things get tough. No, they didn't have the most talent. Yes, the were the best TEAM. They have rings, a sports illustrated video and a trophy to prove it. Being the underdog should make things sweeter for you as their fans. It means they didn't just buy a championship (see NY Yankees, yes a cheap shot against the Yankees should get me back on your good sides), they probably shouldn't have won, but they did because they showed up and played better football.
Now please, I'm waiting for a response from Slipknot.
Slip????

Lunker? more like racer, but it had a huge head
Your fish was bigger or heavier but John gave me 1st because you had a brainfart and didn't get the fork length, therefore I win
I hope it goes better this year.
It doesn't matter whether you are a Bronco fan or a Raider fan or a Steelers fan, You understand how and why the Pats won it all.

I agree , Slipknot's a lucky sob and Schoolie's a dumb sob. That about sums up last years - year long!
But what about weighing them vs measuring them this year? Any more input?

I have the Berkley scale thanks to my lovely wife. I do think that OAL is best. Like GS stated all the shops go with OAL, it would make it easier. Plus it is not fair to expect everyone to get a scale. We could use the scale for the four leg, there should be enough there, but stick with the tape for the yearlong.

Red - I offered the Length x girth method last year and nearly got skinned . But there was some good points made, chiefly that it takes too long....
