Steve was a magnet who brought all kinds of different pieces of the fishing community together. If we were to do a 'six degrees of separation' with Steve I would wager the vast majority of us would be no more than a step or two away from each other. After his wife and children he lived for fishing, but in particular for those others who were obsessed with the challenge of pursuit of striped bass, and the history thereof.

My deepest sympathies go out to his wife Deb and daughters, and for those who most deeply morn his loss I expect that you consider yourself to be fortunate to have known him well rather than those who knew him in just passing. His enthusiasm and passion will be deeply missed.

Rest in peace, my friend.

All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.

I never had the pleasure to meet him, but many people I fish with have spoken very highly of him and his skills - and I have learned quite a bit from his posts here.
RIP Flaptail.

Such sad news - a great person who just loved fishing - both salt and sweetwater - and who gave many great memories to his friends and family.

RIP Steve, watch over us all from above, and guide your best buddies to the right fishing spots!

I loved hearing and reading his posts of days gone by. Especially the stories of the guys from Central Mass. May he rest in peace. My family sends their deepest condolences and his family and friends will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I will miss his wit and his funny posts. His knowledge of vintage plugs and what works when and where was amazing.

I was hoping to meet him at the upcoming plugfest. I'm sure the great Flaptail stories will become legend.

Thoughts and prayers for his daughters and wife.

best- chris

I learned of Steve's passing from fishweewee's thread on SOL. I had to shake my head and rub my eyes to make sure I was understanding it. I'm in total shock.

I'm glad we finally got to spend some one on one time, talking, at the Mass Leg in June, at Mike's. I knew Flap a little from 25 years ago, but a lot of water had passed under the bridge since we talked in person.

My condolences to his family and friends. This must be hitting you hard too, George, and I'm sorry for your loss.

I never met Steve, except through this site. Like everyone else, i am in total shock. My codolances to all his friends and family. The fishing community has lost a true sprotsman and is diminshed by his passing.
