....I still prefer Enviro-tex Lite for ease of application and mirror smooth finish in one coat...I haven't tried Mirror-Coat yet but have tried Sys-3...

I like the envirotex for its ease of use but found the finish to be on the soft side compared to system3 clear coat. The mirror coat is kind of in between clear coat and envirotex. I am looking into trying pellucid next for a real tough finish. The flammability is the only thing leaving me nervous.

NG, You are correct about the Enviro...
...That Pelucid? Is that the solid stuff you have to dissolve in some sort of solvent before you can use it?

no, just brush it on, 1 part no mixing. Just pour a small amount into a seperate container and brush on (or spray on). I do my finishing in basement, so fumes and flammability could pose a problem.
you can also get pigments to use in the clear coat to colorize it. With an epoxy prime then primer, paint and a top coat of epoxy the plug comes out pretty bulletproof. Just alot of steps.

Dave, please DON'T spray pelucid in your basement!
VERY VERY BAD idea. don't even think about it. Don't even brush it on inside. Even outside you still need a good charcoal filter respirator to even brush it on outside. It's not like laquer, although they both are flammable. Very dangerous stuff. Use it outside only or have a powerful enough explosion proof fan to get rid of fumes and put out all pilot lights and have some way for fresh air to enter to replace the exhausted air. Please don't spray that stuff. yer scaring me like bassmaster does.

I haven't bought any and am having doubts. The risks associated with it have made me leary. Wouldn't be able to do it in basement anyways as the wifey hates any kind of lacquer or chemical smell.

Use regular System-3 Clearcoat as a sealer on the bare wood blank. Then prime, paint and top-coat with System-3 Clearcoat. The Sys-3 clearcoat is thin enough to soak into the cedar.
Sys-3 does make an epoxy primer WR-155 in white or gray but I haven't tried it.

Hmmmm... last in, last out? Hated to experiment on swap plugs, but took a chance by going with Sys3-MirrorCoat instead of the Devcon-30 I've always used. I have to honestly say that this was the first time I ever was able to epoxy more than 5 plugs from the same mix... I did 15 plugs with the MirrorCoat, and the finish looks great.
I still have to thru-wire (later this afternoon, hopefully) before I can ship them, but I want to make certain the epoxy sets up well enough to allow handling. Man, seeing these all together -- looking so fine -- makes it really hard to send them away.
But, I know what's coming...
