How much time do you....??
Sissy question time:
How many hours a day (combined) do you spend "online"?? I pop in now and then and see alot of the same yoozers...
Speaking for myself, I think I'm on here too long...not too often, but too long. When I start clicking...it seems like time speeds up. I look at the clock in dis-belief I think back a few years ago when I didn't have a PC...and I know I got a lot MORE accomplished.
Another question would be...."Is the "Net" addictive?" Do you feel you have to get "online" to find out what's going on? Do you feel it's your "club-house" of sorts? Could you go without it for a month? Do you spend more time online..than you do making whooppeee ?? ( that's scary isn't it?) ...On a percent basis, what % of time do you spend researching fishing, whether it be through a member-based website or factual inquiries on fish related questions? How would you divide your time "online"? Do you hate the net, but yet always find yourself "HERE"? I'm just a bit curious, as I find myself "hating" the internet for taking up SO much of my time sometimes. And on different days, I'm grateful for the friends I've made and the knowledge I've gained by it. Today is one of those "hate" days...as I should be taking apart a reel that I dunked yesterday.
What are your thoughts?
Bloo = average of 3 hours total
25% work - related
60% fish - related
15% miscellaneous

I have the site up all day at work and pop in every so often to see what is going. I like the internet, but I know what you mean it can get addictive and it seems like you could be doing something more productive. I have learned a lot about fishing from this great website(thanks John and everyone on this site).

Who is this the Human Resources Gestapo? Keeps me sane through the work day. Only time I am on. Figured it is a waste of company resources NOT to surf the web with this new super duper piece of junk. I still haven't figured out how to check the oil level in it. The woman's laptop is too slow, even for porn, so I don't bother with the internet at home.

I'm on most of the day thru work, checking in regularly. It's like my version of taking a smoke break or hitting the head with the entire Wall St Journal. Having left IT on good terms, they can probably monitor my useage, however I can't imagine them making a stink about it since what I do is basically harmless. I come here to learn, laugh, relieve everyday work stress and enjoy other people's experiences since I can't get out as much as I'd like to right now. I get advice and sometimes give it on a variety of topics. If there's an opportunity to get on via the PC at home I will, but it's mostly the 8 or so hours from work I'm on.

Good question Bloo. My kids got me involved, with computers and the internet. I still don't know where my E-mail name came from. But I found this place and all the info on anything I can think of for free. Beats the crap out of reality TV. I average around 1 1/2 a day. Mostly fish and boat related.

clasic love/hate thing.
love it, but it can easily become a time burner.
Hit it in the AM over coffee and cholesterol, again at lunch, and on and off at night. If it's a slo day at work, I'll pop in and check da boards.
Beats TV, so I guess it ain't all bad...

I feel that the time spent at this site teaches me useful information for saltwater fishing, which I've only been at for three years. Getting into this game at such a late stage I need all the help I can get to catch up with all you oldtimers. I average about an hour a day here, but only at home cuz I've got no internet at work. Thanks John R and everyone else.

Too much time but I ain't gonna incriminate myself. Like others have said its a love hate thing. Reading the battles of #^^^^^^^^^^^& vs. Everybody is great, completly cracks me up. On the flip side, some ahole comes out with the mapteched post right to a hot spot you've been going to. Then you hate the internet.
My job is in systems so I'm in and out alot.
I use google for just about everything.
Thank you Al Gore for inventing the internet.

Next2Nun...my brother had a PC for years before he got married and I'd laugh at him about how much time he wasted on it. I wouldn't EVER use it. I was always off to somewhere else, whether it be fishing related or not...he didn't fish I never thought I'd get as involved as I am today.....

My job is pretty inconsistent in terms of workload. I'll be really busy with a couple projects for a few weeks, then totally dead for a few weeks.
When I'm busy, I'll pop in a couple times a week during lunch or whatever just to make sure I'm not missing anything huge like massive blitzes of 30lbers in the harbor, but maybe a half hour a day.
During the downtime, I'll check out a few sites and spend a couple hours on the net. I really don't surf much. I check a few sports sites, weather, news, and of course, here.
At home, I do zero internet time unless I'm checking email or have some specific bit of knowledge I'm looking for (i.e. steamship authority, flight info, etc.)
If I have free time at home, which is never, I'll be outside working in the yard or on the house or boat.
I think the net is a great resource, but I also think its overrated. I don't look at it as a hobby as some folks I know do. To kill time at work during slow time is one thing, to do it at home... sorry, I have about a thousand things I'd rather do and "have to" do first.

the internet is love/hate for sure...I love being able to keep in touch with those I normally wouldnt be able to (or as often), I hate how it sucks me in and I dont get anything done, I love being able to have a wealth of information at my fingertips, I hate how it makes it very easy for people to pretend to be something they are not, and the list goes on and on...
I usually spend less than an hour a day unless I am expecting to chat with a friend or trying to find info (other than fishing of course...
Then there are days that between hubby and I I swear the puter is on all damn day!

Bloo it's the info, where do you want to go today. I've been fishin a long time. Kind of figuring things out myself. I've learned a lot from this site. I've never caught stripers on scup like I did this year just by moving the hook around.(thanks again)I finally found something to do with that airbrush I bought 20 years ago too!!
