Vacationing on the Cape...Any Suggestions

I talked the wife into going down to the cape on vacation this summer and I'm looking for any suggestions....I'm looking for a place where there's plenty of things to keep the kids busy by day and near enough to some decent fishing for Dad at night. Only time I was ever on the cape was to see an Alice Cooper concert at the Cape Cod Coliseum when I was in High School (Dating myself again)...Not looking for Spots just areas...any Suggestions would be well appreciated

I also wouldn't mind hooking up w/ some of you guys one night to see Striper fishing done right ( I know I'm s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g up)

Gots to be Stripers.....I'm actually not going until July/August but just trying nail things down early.

If it is anytime beteween June 15th and September 1st I suggest driving in at about 4:00am and going straight to the Outer Cape.

Then appear each night between 10pm and 5 am and you will probably only see people from S-B.

Have a great time and call Dave for a beach charter. He knows the beaches over there I suppose...

Breafast prices are plummetting over here. I think all the breakfast spots will be out of business by next year.

Notaro - I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I think TDF is looking at the slightly warmer months for vacation and is considering bass on the menu

TDF - lotsa kids stuff in the Dennis/Harwich stretch and when darkness falls, relatively short drives from Cheatham to Truro

Dad, if your kids like the beach i would say Truro. if they need other types of amusements then i'd say further south. and don't be shy about fishing in daylite, last year i had more fish in the lite than night in august,

This sounds like a plan...I need plenty to tire the kids out so I can slip out and fish after they crash ,,,,Great suggestions all around and hopefully we can hook up and fish sometime.

TDF- Truro is a great place...take them to the town beach and have them run back up the BIG HILL to get stuff you have "forgotten" in the car. Do this every half hour or so...they will sleep like ROCKS all night long. When you see the hill from the parking lot to the beach, you will know what I mean! Are you camping or staying in a house/hotel. The beach on the bay side is great for the little ones, very shallow.
Definately do not try to drive anywhere during the day,that time of year the traffic is miserable. I would usually hit the bridge at about 1-2AM and have not had a problem yet. Have fun!!

The towns of Dennis, Yarmouth and Hyannis are all big family vacation areas that are kid friendly. There is shopping everywhere, horseback riding, kayak rentals, restaurants and beaches where ever you turn. What you got to understand is there are beaches everywhere on the Cape. You have both the bay and the backside depending if you want waves, shallow water to play with the kids or peace and tranquility. I guess it depends how old the kids are also. The outter cape has fantastic beaches for night fishing. Plus, depending on the kids ages, there is great daytime whale watching trips for the family in Provincetown. If your looking for a house, a member here that goes by Luker rents a beautiful house by the week. I believe other Striped Bass members have rented from him in the past. Contact him if interested.

Dad, tell us the kids ages, what you would like to do for activities and we can help you better. The possibilities are endless.

I live in yarmouth and it is loaded with stuff for the kids!! But it will take you about 1/2 to 1 hour depending were you want to fish?? The Race takes just about one hour.

I favor the Orleans area. It's above Chatham, but not so far that you can't go down to Monomoy or the lighthouse beach.

You can fish Nauset, and the Inlet. You won't be far from the more northerly Coast Guard beach. It's not a long ride up through Wellfleet to Newcomb and Calhoun's, either. If you feel like fishing the Bay, you've got Skaket, or you can charter out of Rock Harbor.

And Orleans is big enough so there's other stuff that the kids, wife, etc. can do.

What kind of camping is there down there? Can you camp out right on the Beach?

That is a list of all the camp sites. Idon't no what you have for a camper or tent but there are some nice places around. Sweet Water is a nice place to go??
And is in Brewster close to the fishng grounds!!

I have a KOA/campgrounds international membership based out of cape cod that can be used all over the US that cost over 7 grand almost 20 years ago that I still pay yearly Upkeep dues on and have never used(DOEEEEEEEEEEE).Camping is free or used used to be like 6 bucks a night for cabin.One site right in Falmouth/Mashpee near southcape beach.Great investment opportunity!!!!

Nickerson State Park in Brewster has campsites. I rented a house in Brewster in July '02 and hit Nauset, CG Beach and South Beach while the family slept. No traffic at 3:00 am.

Went back to the same beaches once they woke up.

Eastham has some pretty affordable rentals as well and is not too far out.

For years Bob thomas and I camped at North Truro Camping Area in Truro. A short walk to the beaches and water. The people were nice and of course camping is affordable. There is also Maurice's at the Eastham/Wellfleet line. Maurices is closer to civilization but a few minutes father from the beaches.

Basically you can find a place to camp all over the Cape. You can camp right on the Cape Cod canal(Bourne Scenic Park or Scusset Beach). Spend a night a two at the canal, try your luck fishing with the rest of us unbalanced nuts, hit the outlets shopping(make the missus happy) then head father out on the Cape.

Your kids are old enough to enjoy the waves at the beaches. If your in the Wellfleet area, bring the family to The Beachcomber. It's a restaurant on the beach, plenty of fine sand and swimming and even the opportunity to make a cast or two.

I no a few fisher man that stay at them spots. They are great for a few guys who want to get toghter and fish fish fish!!

But for family no way, Just not anough to keep the rest of the family busy!!

If were me I would be staying around the Harwhich, Brewster area, It is close anogh for the fish, beach and the mid cape for a day with the kids.

I don't no your budget?? or your camping gear but try here, I went there 1 time last year and had a good time!! going to go again this year

I agree with Macojoe, the Brewster area may be best. It is only 40 minutes to the race and it will be walking distance for the kids to go-carts and trampolines. I remember those days well. Walking distance may be important unless you vacation with 2 cars....
