Oh the pain!

Help!!!

I went out yesterday for a little fishing, I even took the wife, one of her friends with her 7 year old son.

The day started of great, we were catching fish and the boy and his mother had never been on a boat before to fish only from shore.

They were loving it!

Well we were out for about 3 hours going from one spot to another, all with success when it happened!

I started the motor up and was about to head in when I heard this clunk! I had no steering, I looked back to see that the arm that comes from the motor to the hydrolic steering had snapped!

We were stranded!

There was no way to hold the motor by hand to steer, too much torque from the motor and the water was getting a little sloppy. So I threw out the anchor and called SeaTow, I am soooooo glad I paid for the unlimited service, they came and brought us in, barely!

I gave them exact location for us (1/4 mile off the lighthouse at Tarpolin Cove) and the vessel that was looking for us could not find us, this was after waiting 2 hours for them to come.

The capt. of the vessel was talking to me, I could see him but he could not see me. So after the game of hide and seek I told him to look up and I shot a flare, I said you see me now and he said oh I wasn't looking.

So I shot another one, this time the flare went straight up and he called "okay I saw it", now the flare has to come down right? Yep, you guessed it ... right off the top of the motor!

Talk about the good lord looking out for us !

I am just sooooo glad that that thing didn't snap while we were under full speed, that would have been the end of my boating! I know someone if not all of would have gotten hurt badly if not killed.

We would have gotten bounced around and beaten up on the boat and with the motor slapping full tilt to one side the boat would have gone in circles running us over in the water.

I am just sooooo glad that nobody got hurt except my boat!

So now that this is all behind me I have to fix the boat.
Does anyone know what that bar is called and how hard of a job is it too fix.

Thanks for listening and letting me vent, I hope this never happens to anyone else out there.

Insanity is a long and winding road ... I think I finally made it there.

Hi John,

No it's not a yami its a 1991 Evinrude 200 VRO. I'm pretty sure the part is called the steering arm but just not positive, also don't know where to look for the part as far as a website for ordering.

I wish it was a Yamaha though!

macojoe,

Thanks for the info, you were close to what I need, but not the piece.

If you look at that site you gave me then click on "return to steering accessories menu", scroll down to number 1-SA27255 transom mount and click on that, the picture that comes up shows part of what I need. If you look where the letter H is its the part that looks like a tongue that it connects to.

I appreciate the help from you guys, it means alot!

I'm going to investigate that site more and see if I can find it.

PLEASE keep me in the mind if you's can think of any site I can find it.

THANK YOU GUYS, THANKS!!!!

Is it the piece on the motor you need?? Or the end of the steering cable??
You can get the piece for the motor from a dealer. If it is the other piece then you will need to get a new cable.

Good luck!
